Can I be arrested from false theft accusations ?

I work in a grocery store warehouse, and was fired under the impression that I was stealing. Supposely there were items going missing. They said they were doing a 3 month investigation and they have me on camera walking from the locker room to my car with a duffle bag. After that I told them I wasnt stealing, I refused to sign any papers saying I “wasnt coherced in the interview”. (Question #1: If they had all this time in 3 months… why didnt they stop me and check the bag?!) The next day they call another co-worker in and do the same thing… This time they say I gave a list of names and things I sold to people from the warehouse. (Question #2: What if someone comes after me and hurts me from this false information ?From the impression that I snitched?) This guy admits his guilt … and he just has to pay back the company the money and it wont go further.(Question #3: Can they still prosecute ?) I am trying to make sense of this why they fired me and if they are going to try to prosecute. Of course they dont have any evidence because I didnt do it. A bunch of people there that work bring duffle bags and backpacks with a change of clothes/personal items. About 4 days later they call about 5 people in a room all together.(everyone of them uses a backpack and dufflebag) They tell them all that I gave security a list of names that I have been selling stolen product to. I think they are trying to scare them into falsly confessing to them so they can use them against me in court. (Question #4: If they all sign a sworn statement just to keep their jobs saying they saw me or know I was stealing… can they use this against me in court?) Question #5: Is this enough evidence against me to arrest me and prosecute ? I am on probation now and dont want to violate, if I would have known something like this was to happen in the future I would have never even worked there. I havent stole a thing, but yet all this is happening. Please help me anyone with advice… I am so lost and scared for my freedom. ~Scared

Answer #1

Does it cost money for them to prosecute ? … Iam trying to find the chances that they might… Me and my girlfriend of 4 years worry everyday and we barely sleep and eat for fear of me going to jail.

Answer #2

Ahh I see what you mean. But there are no customers there… it is a warehouse. With about 30 people that work there everyday… with several different shifts. And I meant to say I wasn’t* in charge… typo

They dont have any “stolen product” and they had the chance to check and search me but never did within the 3 months!

Answer #3

Well you were the one who was working at the time of the thefts, and becuase they have absolutely NO proof of customers doing it, the prosecuters go to you, because you are “the only possible person to do it”

Answer #4

Hmph! I say that your fine. If they don’t have proof, they can’t do anything:)

Answer #5

what do you mean I was in charge at time ? I wasnt a manager… just a worker there

Answer #6

you could get in trouble because you were the one in charge at the time/.
