My husband just broke his second toe from the right ...on his right foot. It's a ugly color of blue /black from half way up his foot to the first joint on his toe.Its also swollen too. I've been putting ice on it every hour for 15 minutes at a time. And he's keeping it elevated. He will not let me "buddy wrap" it to another toe. Besides giving him Alieve ...what else can I do for him?
The best thing is to ice it, like 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off and keep it elevated (which you are doing). The only thing a doctor is going to do is "buddy wrap" it to the toe beside it. But, since it's black and blue up into his foot, he may have broken a bone in his foot too, which would be serious enough to need medical care. I would take him to get some x rays just to be sure.
The Dr. isn't going to do much for a broken toe...cept tell you to keep it elevated and iced, to stay off of it a few days, and maybe prescribe a few painkillers...all of which you're doing now.

I agree, not knowing just exactly how bad it is, if he doesn't go, he could end up permanently disabled.
Take him to the doctor!
