Why do people stare at me when I'm with my boyfriend - because I'm white and he's black?

It is definitely not bad when you love each other. Some people are just being idiots.

And maybe some people just stare, because seeing a blond girl with a black boy is an unusual sight in your place? So they are more like curious stare than like hateful stare… It’s sometimes difficult to tell.

Maybe you can try playing with your reaction to the stares a little bit. If you do the “I feel uncomfortable being stared at and try to ignore the stare” reaction, people will keep staring. Try looking back at them, right into the eyes and giving them a broad smile. Or try giving a questioning “what’s up” look… pretend that you just got the impression that the staring person is about to start a conversation but doesn’t know how to start speaking to you.

That will make them notice they stared. Most people don’t do it on purpose. Try not to react aggressively to the stares. Try not to show that you are offended.

Interracial marriage used to be illegal in most of the US before 1887 and it remained illegal in the South until the ACLU prevailed overturning the conviction of a Virginia couple and rendered racial purity laws unconstitutional in 1967. While there is nothing wrong interracial dating, cohabitation, and marriage there are still a lot of backward, ignorant, and prejudiced people out there who won’t approve.

its either because they are ignorant,small minded people or they find it interesting that you too look so different. Eg people look and me and my boyfriend because hes tall and really slim with black hair and im podgey, blonde and short.
