When I apply for a job online do I have to give them my social security number or not?

How do i know if they are not going to steal my identity. What do you think tell me please thank you.

Answer #1

The only time you should give out your SIN is when you are actually hired for a job … not when applying for it.

Answer #2

I’ve ran into that and in order to get past that, just enter a fake one till their system accepts it. If they call I explain the SS# is not my real number because I will not post it on line. They ususally understand.

Answer #3

Potiental bosses need it to do a backround check. If you don’t put one chances are you won’t recieve a call about the job. Putting in a fake social is illegal and considered fraud so I wouldn’t take Marishas advice on that one.
