Does AOL send email texts, like how Facebook sends alerts saying if someone commented on something?

Nope to my knowledge no email provider offers SMS alerts like facebook, although most cell providers give the user an email address for their phone if u find out what it is you could have the emails forwarded to the email address of the phone and it will send it to the phone. Hope this helps :)
