Why don't americans like & play soccer as much as so many other nations and countries do??

Answer #1

Cuz we like FOOTBALL

Answer #2

That shouldn’t stop you from being open for liking/loving soccer, should it? It’s the most popular sport in the world. That means something.

Answer #3

Yes that’s true, but I think us americans may b somewhat closed minded

Answer #4

Yeah! Football! Lolz jk I don’t really watch football unless the Sunday Bowl and I only watch it for the half time commericals XD

Answer #5

Around 300 million of you could make a bloody many cool soccer players if soccer were more popular. The world looses much from this.

Answer #6

Well soccer is a lot more work than football, and it may be to hard for most fat Americans.

Answer #7

because in america we have the opportunities to play more sports, and in my eyes much better sports.

Answer #8

There’s people everywhere who are close-minded and there’s people everywhere wo are open to different ideas. It’s not just in one part of the world and not the others and if it were like that, people came to America from everywhere, that’s how it’s always been, so there’s no way America as a whole is close-minded without the whole world being that way too.

Answer #9

Well most everywhere else soccer is football.

Answer #10

oh and also soccer is a very cheap sport to play, which makes it more popular with the lesser nations, and thus more popularity

Answer #11

True…

Answer #15

i wish i knew, soccer is the best :)

Answer #16

Your comment makes me consider you an 8 year. Offended on americans? Fat americans don’t do sports I suppose which results in their fatness. There not good for football. No fat guys run around there. Only muscly ones, and they are damn fast. If you watch olympic games you may see how well “fat” americans cope with different sports and how all the world doesn’t as well. Why write this nonsence here?

Answer #17

Thanks for commenting. Your position is unbelievable, unexpected and soo clever all at the same time. You surely work in the sport industry, you opened my eyes and helped me understand things, thanks a lot.

Answer #18

Yes!) You’re so right!) People, do many sports and let soccer be one of them, it deserves it, don’t be silly!)

Answer #19

Then what do you find the reason for such unpopularity of soccer in the USA, Satanheadbangstometal?

Answer #20

hahaha, so so true!

Answer #21

oh your so welcome

Answer #22

Ok, you found me out, there was no research behind my answer.

Answer #23

Because basketball, baseball, and American football get much more TV coverage in the US. It’s not that Americans don’t like or follow the sport. Soccer has become much more popular in the US than it used to be, and the US team’s performance in this year’s World Cup shows the country is taking soccer much more seriously than before. But American interest in soccer is relatively new and it’s hard for the sport to compete with those others that have a much wider following. Soccer is also seen in the US as a youth and women’s sport, but that perception is also changing.

Answer #24

the reason why soccer is the most popular is because of the poor countries they cannot afford to play anything else. thats plain and simple! get it in ur head that soccer is popular for that reason only. in the United States of America we have much more opportunities much more money, and more sports to choose from. the poor countries do not have that choice its either play soccer or do nothing.

Answer #25

wogoobogoo you are really talking out your a$$

Answer #26

I don’t think that all americans don’t like soccer, I just think that it varies from pearson to pearson. For example I like soccer, but the people I stay with like football, but then again some of the other kids that live with me like soccer, and they are all americans, they just have diffrent tastes.

Answer #27

Ok then.

Answer #28

Bloody hell, do you really think all countries except USA are poor? Do you really think all other countries play only soccer because it’s aaaall they can afford, the pooooor europeans? Do you know how much money the soccer industry makes? Say 300mln are active hockey fans, and 2 bln soccer ones, what will be a more profitable sport? Which sport will make more? Why is coca cola such a damn big empire and so expensive? Because MANY people like it. Some like local drinks, but coca cola is like international, it’s everywhere, same with soocer! It’s the MOST popular sport, it’s for all classe, not just for poor and it’s profitable. It brings a freaky lot of money (many american business corps have bought eroupean soccer clubs in stead of investing in the SUPER cool sports for RICH people that are spread in your country) just like with coca cola, because the soccer fans PREVEAL. So it’s not poor. There are more soccer playgrounds in the world than any other. Chinese make cheap clothes, but they PREVEAL on the market, so they are damn rich, richer than any DKNY or D&G. So whoes poor? Some chinese JuyPuy making 10bln a year or some DKNY making 300mln? 5%-15% of people can buy DKNY clothes and all the rest buys chinese (to say roughly, this isn’t a report) NO, football, baseball, hockey, basketball aren’t unpopular for erupeans and the for the world because they are too poor to play it. The world plays everything.

Or imagine this situation. A 7 year old son says “dad, I wanna take up soccer at school” and dad replies “Nooo, son it’s for the poooor!”. Do such conversations take place? Maybe they would in your family, but nowhere else.

But I understand that no investors will give much money for any soccer fields, adds and stuff in USA now and invest in other sports, because of it’s unpopularity, yes. You can call it a poor sport in this way. Casue no one watches it in the USA it’s poor there.

Answer #29

It’s not as watched b/c it’s non stop action thus harder to insert traditional TV advertising into the game, unlike baseball, football, hockey, golf, tennis….etc, etc. Those are far easier to commercialize via TV advertising which is what pays for a lot of the bills, the salaries and the supporting infrastructure.

Despite that, yes, it is getting much more popular and the youth programs we have today are infinitely better than when I was growing up (only 20 ish years ago) :)

Answer #30

Many grand european soccer teams belong to american corps. And if you consider soccer a poor people sport look up how much a ticket for some champions league match costs and how much money players like Cristiano Ronaldo or Kaka make and you’ll see how poor soccer is. Their salaries shock the mind.

There is just another problem. It’s that no one wants to play soccer ‘cause people don’t know much about it. A young kid will want to take up what he’s in the TV or outside- baseball, basketball etc and not soccer which he has hardly ever seen. He won’t say “dad i wanna take up soccer” for this only reason- because of its unpopularity. I really like football, but there is no place to play it here, no one shows it on TV, no one invests in it, so of course no one plays it! People see other sports being played outside and choose something out of them.

Answer #32

soccer is just plain a$$ boring get it thru your head. in america we have better sports more exciting sports. soccer is boring. how to they not score more goals in such a huge net, it says the play is stupid. and what thedude said is another reason why it will never succeed in the USA theres no marketing for it. sorry to bring you soccer parade down, but here in america we have better sports to watch and play.

Answer #33

You’re a genious. Most probably a very young one. Good luck, be happy, keep your opinion for yourself and I’ll keep mine for me.

Answer #34

Breakingfan2006, sorry mate but you just come across like an absolute tosser. You need a “L” imprinted on your forehead…. Soccer is not a game for poor countries. Do you know how much a soccer player earns? More then your Yankee grid iron footballers. Now, grid iron football is a sport for the mindless brain dead viewers. All the players on the field do is run forward, throw the ball and have the oppositions tackle them. Get it through your head, grid iron is boring as bat sh-t….Soccer is an international sport, your yankee football isn’t.

Answer #35

so your saying that the millions and millions of people around the world (who do watch the super bowl for the NFL because the super bowl is televised all over the world) are nothing. and im sure the soccer players don’t make more than 60 million+ USD. also for NFL being mainly an american sport, it has a annual revenue of 40+ billion USD every year. what am i thinking. but if soccer was so great(which it really isnt that exciting) more people would like it in america. on a side not i do know soccer takes alot of endurance to play i know that but the players can’t do much in a game against other player cuz you gotta watch out for that yellow card(oooo oh no yellow card) and then that red card(/?? makes no sense) at least with our great sports they let the players control the games most of the time and not let refs control them with a yellow or red card? makes no sense

Answer #36

on a HUGE SIDE NOTE i am against any type of pro-athlete making so much money, its stupid because it takes away the meaning of the game. i am for the athletes getting paid decent but anything over a couple million is crazy(and getting paid that much anyways is crazy)

Answer #37

hahahaha breakingfan is a douchebag :) seriously… just because YOU don’t like something, doesn’t mean millions, actually.. BILLIONS of people don’t like it.. Soccer is a classy sport, you actually need to pay attention to get it.. but i wouldn’t let that worry your minute mind.. so you go watch your “Exciting American Sports” and we. (people with an IQ over 100) will watch our FOOTBALL.. ignorant prick.

Answer #38

Millions and millions of viewers? Where exactly did you obtain the figures? Look, we can argue til the cows decides to come home and you are still going to be stubborn as a donkey….Yankee football is big in America and for expats who are living overseas (Americans) BUT THE SPORT is not internationally as BIG as soccer. If Grid Iron was such a popular sport, why this football is not considered an Olympic event and why aren’t other countries trying to form a team to play the sport… By the way, I am only having a go at you, as you were being so hot-head towards the guy above. We love our soccer as much as you love your Yankee style football…..Still thinks Grid Iron is boring as bat shi-t.
