What would an aged fart in a jar smell like?

The intense, bad smell of a fart is mostly methane.

Now methane isn’t chemically very stable. So if there was also air in the jar, before the fart was added, the methane would react with the oxygen, this producing water and carbon dioxide. Which does not have a scent.

So it would not smell.

Unless, of course, you manage to catch the fart in the jar without it touching the air. Maybe there is a way to do that with a flexible tube, a cylinder pump and valves. Then it would smell like a rotten fart.

I don’t really think the amount of decibels has anything to do with scent.

Nothing I’m pretty sure. Even when you hold in a fart, it gets less smelly the longer you hold it (saw it on the doctors! :P ) so.. in a jar I’m pretty sure it will just die and be air.
