Abandonment Stories

If you’re only interested in the experience of other teens, then you can stop reading here, ‘cause I’m an old guy.

My father walked away from our family when I was less than two years old (my sister was only two weeks old). I didn’t meet him until I was 19 years old. It turns out that I’m surely a better person for his not being around as a role model.

I think the important thing in my experience is that my mother never spoke ill of him. While she was matter of fact about his absence when we asked, she never made us feel like victims and so I really never felt abandoned, as you must.

I’m sorry for your loss and I hope you can find it in your heart to not harbor bitterness toward you father. Know that you can survive even this hurt, and that there are men in the world who will live up to your expectations of them.
