5 week old pup

One of our family members gave us a 5 week old puppy, insisting she was ready to leave her mom. We didnt know any better til we got her home. I just heard that she could develope a biting problem because she was taken from her mom so young, How do I prevent her from developing a biting problem? How do I teach her not to bit, or is she to young?

Answer #1

All of the other puppies are gone too, and they live 2 hours from us and definately arent going to take her back.

Answer #2

She’s way too young… She needs to be with her mum till 8 weeks… You’re creating a lot of extra work for yourself, and its just not good for the puppy

Answer #3

Well.. its not good… but your puppy is not just more likely to develop a biting problem… she is much more likely to develop behavioural problems… or not know how to socialise with other dogs… which could get her into a lot of fights.

She hasn’t learnt enough yet, she may grow up very nervous or afraid because she does not know how to act. Puppies should stay with their mothers and siblings until they are 8 weeks old… but it seems that there isn’t anything you can do now to get her back to her mother.

So… do you have any other dogs at home?

well I wod take her to to the vets and let them check her to make sure she’s alright and they will have tips of how to stop her biting hope this helps x

Answer #5

well the reason she should have been with her mother until 8 weeks is because mom will teach them how to behave and put them in there place if the are not. Also some states it is against the law to remove a puppy from there mother at this age. Mom also will teach them social skills we cannot. So first take the pup to the vet and get the exam and vaccines this puppy needs, then you will have to be mommy and correct her when she is misbehaving, you can’t think it is cute if she is bitting or eating a sock or shoe, and you can’t give her a old shoe and not exzpect to chew on any shoe, they don’t know what is new or old. So displine will be important.

Answer #6

thanks for all the advice! I dont have any dogs but my grandmother does so maybe I’ll set up some playdates for her. But how do I correct her? I know your not supposed to spank them, but can she understand what im saying?

Answer #7

well it is natural for puppies to chew and play bite but yes she has been taken from her mother to young and will not get the normal and natural discipline she needs from her mother. you wil have to be her PACK LEADER you will have to be her mother and treat her just as a mother dog would
