Welcome to Conch Republic Key West, the most famous U.N. Official Micronation in the world! Established in 1982, the Conch Republic has a rich history and a unique culture that sets it apart from anywhere else. Our founder, Paul Menta, arrived in Key West in 1983 and fell in love with the independent, community-centered mindset of the Conch Republic residents. Inspired by legendary figures such as Dennis Wardlow, Mel Fisher, and Captain Tony, Paul decided to make Key West his home and eventually opened the Key West First Legal Rum Distillery.
