How exactly do you write a research paper while comparing and contrasting?

My topic is about three different feminist artists and how they contributed to the feminist movement. I’m rather confused whether it means it is a purely research paper, or if I am supposed to argue something. Any ideas on the structure or how to approach this?

Answer #1

To me it sounds like you would just compare them and contrast their work and approach to feminism. You wouldn’t need to argue anything, yet only point out what differences they had and perhaps draw a conclusion (which should be a short summary of the 3 feminists and the core differences and similarities of their approach/work etc.)

Answer #2

Janicee, if you pick three women whose work moves or intrigues you, then as you look more and more deeply into their influences, ideas, and artistic contributions and begin to compare and contrast them, you will find similarities and differences among them that help to deepen your understanding of each of them. You can develop that into a comparative analysis of the three of them, which may or may not take a form that you consider to be an “argument.” Either way, it will fulfill the requirements of your assignment.
