I feel helpless about people in pain, what do I do?

I live in a town where they educate us (I’m 14) a lot about world issues. Poverty, starvation, etc. So I’m very aware of so many issues. I happen to be really good at empathizing and some times I can’t stop. It’s like whenever I hear about everything that’s going on or whenever I think about it, I feel like I’m the one being hurt and it hurts so bad. I can’t stop it. I just want to help but I’m 14, I can’t do much. And I do do what I can but I feel so helpless and it kills me to know that people are in pain. What am I supposed to do?

Answer #1

I have the same problem? donate your time and/or money to charaties like make a wish or idol gives back. if your school has a relay for life program, get involved. if not, ask to start one. google poverty in your area and see what you can do to help. god bless!

Answer #2

well acknowledging other peoples pain is fine, and like you said- do what you can- to help those that you can. and it seems that you are perfectly aware of your limitations. so it seems that you are doing what you need to be doing. just accept that it is out of your hands. do what you can, and live your life.and try not to feel the pain so much , it will be hard, but start focusing on happy things.

Answer #3

Its good to know about current events. But more important to know that its only bad news if it happens to you.

Answer #4

I think the best thing you can do is concentrate on your education. Once you are fully educated about things, you’ll be in a better position to know what can really be done. As toadaly said, there will always be suffering. Even Jesus said that and I’m an atheist, LOL! So be the best, most productive citizen you can and, when you are ready and able to make a difference, you’ll know how best to do it.

Answer #5

Pray about the matters important to you and volunteer in areas where you can make a difference…Take care !!

Answer #6

As callous as this sounds, stop listening. There really isn’t anything you can do about it, and paying attention to it is adding pain to this world rather than subtracting from it.
