why isnt he talking to me? HELP!

I really liked this guy, and things were going really well. I had a strong feeling he liked me too, so one day I decided to let him know. I started to tell him, but I couldnt come straight out and say it, so I didnt. I think he gets the clue though…but now he wont talk to me! well, he says hi and stuff but when I ask him something to make conversation, he just gives me a short answer and walks away or pretends he’s busy.
Is he mad because I didnt come out and just say it straight out or does he just not like me? if he doesnt like me I still wanna be friends with him, I really miss him!!! why isnt he talking to me and what can I do?

oh and my friends tell me that it might be because hes so busy with school and sports that he doesnt have time for a girlfriend in his life right now so he doesnt wanna lead me on. hes really smart and has a lot of homework all the time so this might be true…but I don’t know…
