Why does my dog attack her 3 and a half week old puppies?

My dog is a jack x staff, who had 5 pups 3 and a half weeks ago, they have just started to need some puppy meal and she has been a good mum untill tonight when she attacked 2 of them for no apparent reason. Both yelped and shook like mad but she hadnt drew any blood and now they are all snuggled up together…is she trying to get rid of them? They are big pups and she is medium sized. Im worried about leaving her alone with them? Any suggestions??

well, if they’re cuddling now, everything may be good. you are smart for being cautious, though, because animals are different than us, so just watch them, and if you need to go somewhere, put them in different rooms and don’t be gone for a long time or have somebody dog sit for u, but make sure they are good with the animals before they a alone with them. good luck.

They may be starting to get teeth now…and it hurts when they suckle. Check their mouths, to see if you can feel the new needle teeth. In the next few days, you need to start introducing puppy chow to the pups, soaked in water so it will be soft…in order to supplement their feed.

I’d be nervous leaving her alone with them also… I don’t think she’d hurt one on purpose, but she may be a little too rough in her doggie style discipline.

They may not be fully healthy. Dogs can sense when there is something wrong with their puppies and they won’t take care of them fully bc they know there is something wrong. Since she is only doing that to two of them, that makes me think they may be sick or something. If she continues this, bottle feed them and take them to the vet.
