When I talk to my guy friend like on the phone… mostly texting.. And he wants to no what Im up to he says…”was up Girl”

Why does he always call me girl.. What does it mean He said he liked me and I like him and it’s awkward to hear him say girl to me

It doesn’t mean anything, it’s just his way of saying “hi”.. you know like how some people say “was up homie?” you know… ?
