Why do some say it is illegal to drive barefoot?

Is it illegal to drive barefoot? I do because my workboots I cant feel the pedals, so I take them off and I think its better to drive barefoot but people say its illegal

Only in California and on a motorcycle in Alabama

Alabama: Barefoot Driving: Operation of a motor vehicle by a driver with bare feet is permitted. Exception: motorcycle rider.

Ohio: Barefoot Driving: Operation of a motor vehicle by a driver with bare feet is permitted but not recommended.

California: Barefoot Driving: Operation of a motor vehicle by a driver with bare feet is not prohibited.

My shoes or my feet? lol I wear size 5… I’m 4’11” and I usually use the front part of my foot because my heel doesn’t even reach the pedal lol.. So yeah, it’s a little tough without shoes. My toes will barely reach haha :)

its not illegal but if an officer feels like it they may ticket you for carelessness while driving dont know me how or why thats just how it is.

in some states yes. because your feet can slip off the pedals easier is what I heard. but hey, if you dont drive stupidly, they wont pull you over. no one will ever know.

@moe214 - how big are your shoes. Do you use the end of your heel to reach the peddles?

I couldnt drive barefoot… id hurt my lil pinkies when im putting teh clutch down :(

I tried to drive without shoes and I can’t reach the pedals lol. Psh.. barely reach them WITH shoes =/

thanks for your answers :) I do drive better with out shoes so no cop will stop me and I do wear socks so they grip the pedals better
