why can I not watch vidoes on my sylvania mp3 player?

How can I watch videos on my Sylvania smpk8858 player? I added several videos in “avi” format and trying to view on the player I got the following message “file format error”.

What is the problem?

Did it come with a little CD? I think you might need to install a program that converts .avi to the format used with that type of mp3 player. If you don’t have it check the Sylvania website.

I downloaded a video to flash converter from this site http://funadvice.com/r/15fc50pibrd and all the videos i run through that program work. I’ve tried AVI and other videos that were in flash and none worked in the player, but once I run them through the flash converter they play perfectly.
