Why am I getting mushy Rotting cactus ?

Why are my cactus turning mushy and rotting ?? I water infrequently and wait until the soil is completely dry yet I am still having my cactus rot from the inside turning watery and to soggy mush in on it’s self. What am I doing wrong? Some of these plants I have had for a very long time with little or no water yet when all the way dry I water and ruin. What am I doing wrong now??

Depends on the type of cactus. My brother is a cactus freak. Some plants just get old and die too. Maybe they get too cold? Or maybe, like some, they need to go dormant in the winter but if you have them inside it’s too warm and they get sick and die.. Do not over fertilize them, but you must fertilize when they are growing. Do they have spines? Have you checked for bugs! Root mealybug cannot be seen unless you unpot the plant and look at the roots. Killing root mealybug is almost impossible. Also, you say little or no water, you may actually be underwatering them sometimes.
