Who can help with insomnia and depression questions?

Sorry for the lack of a better way to start off my question. I was just wondering if depression can bring on insomnia? If I could find some answers, that would be lovely.

Also, don’t watch TV directly before going to bed. It stimulates the mind and it could take an hour before your mnd winds down to the point where you can sleep.

Yes.

Depression is the lack of serotonin in the brain, a key part in controlling our mood and also our sleep cycle (serotonin gets converted into melatonin and melatonin is what commands our body to sleep).

It could also be because your depression/stress is causing you to be too restless. It’s hard to fall asleep when the mind is full of worries and depressing thoughts. Try blocking out the thoughts with some soothing music.

Try and keep all the lights off and to only sleep in bed. You need to train your body that the bed is for sleeping, so don’t eat and watch TV in it all day.

If that doesn’t work, it might be time to seek out the help of a doctor, therapist, etc. They can counsel you throught depression and prescribe pills (if necessary) to help you get your life and sleep cycle on track again.

I am a clinical depressive and an insomniac and one is definitly linked to the other and it is a viscious circle ,because the less sleep you get ,the more tired you get, the more run down you feel, the more stressed you get and the more depressed and ill you feel.I am sorry but there are no hard and fast cures .The only thing I have found helps a bit, is when you finally do sleep through exhaustion make sure your sleep is not interrupted so your body can catch up,even if it means you sleep for 24 hours plus, just make sure you eat when you wake .I often do this and feel better for it for a couple of days .Most of the time 1 or 2 hours a night is all I get .Sleeping tablets can help as can antianxiety tablets and antidepressants but consult your doctor .You should also make time for yourself every day to relax do something you enjoy and if you have problems talk to some one eg a councillor .Remember a problem shared is a problem halved and maybe even solved .I hope this helps if you would like to chat message me on me profile good luck.
