Where can I find a free jail look up site?

I need to know if there is an internet site that is free for jail inmate searches.

if your looking for a specific inmate and know where they are incarcerated at you should call the facility and ask if they have a website, most places do. and a lot of the time all you have to do is enter the inmates name and it brings up there record. example: I live in mansfield. several people I know have been incarcerated in the county jail near me. when I wanted to find out what for I asked around and found out that if I went to google and typed in Mansfield Muncipal Court Records it brings up a link and all I have to do is type in a persons first and last name and I am able to view their record from the past to the present day. It shows everything from a speeding ticket to murder. I am also able to view the dockets to see exactly what their punishment was. there public records and its your right as a citizen to know who your neighbors are:) so ask around…most places have websites for the county where you can look up peoples records.

You do realize that providing a list of inmates at prisons would violate any pretense at a right o privacy by the inmates, correct?

And that doing so would probably violate federal law, and state law in some cases?

Exactly WHY would the government offer such a service?
