When do I start count the 63 days to know when the puppies are due?

We breed my JRT on May 1st. Do we start counting from that day or from when she went into heat to know when the puppies will arrive? Also about how many weeks until we notice a difference with her. She is 5 years old and this is her first litter.

It takes approximately 63 days from conception. Now…if you don’t know THIS, then it’s pretty obvious that you don’t have a clue what responsible breeders do, and how they get Champion…well bred pups, without physical or tempremental problems…

Another litter of back yard dogs…just what the world needs, when there are already 4 to 6 MILLION dogs and cats put to death every year…many, MANY are purebred dogs…

You better get on the internet and start reading about what to expect at whelping, the problems that can occur, and then get a relationship going with a Vet, so if something does go wrong…you won’t lose the pups and the mother.

I read the answers to questions like this all the time and have to say for all of you who give your speech as an answer, shame on you! You were new to breeding at one point, and yes maybe they should have know ahead of time but now that the dog is pregnant they need help!
My answer: According to what our Vet says you should count 63 day from the first conception this is just a generalization though dogs can go from 58-65 days if you can not tell that the dog is pregnant you should get an ultrasound to verify around day 24 or an xray around day 54. Hopefully someone can get some use out of this answer!
