What would be a good percentage to donate?

On my spare time I make hammocks for people’s pet rats and sell sets of them because in pet stores the prices are outrageous. I put a lot of time and even money into making them, I’ve had so much practice they look store bought.

I’ve decided now that I’m selling them that I’m going to start donating a certain percent of proceeds to a rat rescue because there are so many rescues around the world taking in homeless rats and raising them, these rats are in need of hammocks because some chew quite a bit.

What would be a good percentage to donate? (the average package is $30-$40)

How much do they cost you to make?

Answer #2

Hmm well churchs expect you to tithe 30% of your income. I am an avid animal lover and help with rescues so I think that would be a good number, but of course you need to make sure you pay all your bills and everything and then take 30% of whats left to donate. Glad you are helping animals (not fond of rats lol but I don’t even kill spiders so go you!)

How much do they cost you to make? The material in total I usually spend $20 on but that makes at least 2 sets and other little supplies come to about $20 (the hooks and stuff).

Not to presume that you care for what the Bible says - just as a reference: Most churches accept a tithe of 10% from Leviticus 27:32 ‘For every tenth part of herd or flock, whatever passes under the rod, the tenth one shall be holy to the LORD.

Being that this is not for a church, you can set whatever percent you think is good. Hope this example helps. Keep up the good work you are doing for the little ones!!
