How to know if my pearl is real?

I have a small pearl looking marble size item. I would like to know if it is a real pearl or a marble

Answer #1

they look exactly like a fake pearl necklace…

take it to a jeweler or a pawn shop and ask them if they could check it for you, they usually do this for free

Answer #2

If you scratch it with your fingernail and it feels gritty instead of smooth then it’s real. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense but you’ll probably know what I mean if you try it.

Answer #3

I too tried to test da pearl originality rubbed to my teeth and I felt gritty,,,I hope itz real

Answer #4

Real pearls warm up when you hold them in your hand for a while but a marble will stay cooler against your skin. A pearl necklace will become the same temperature as your body as you wear it - it’s the only jewellery that does that, as far as I know.

Answer #5

I hear that real pearls are kind of gritty, like if you were to scratch it with a fingernail or something.

Answer #6

well… I heard if you bite it an it breaks its fake. but I don’t really reccommend trying that.

Answer #7

real pearls are heavier than fake pearls.

Answer #8

Friction Test Take two pearls then lightly rub one against the other. If they feel gritty or sandy, they are real pearls. If they feel smooth, they are not real.

Surface Magnification Magnify the surfaces of the pearls with a magnifier. If they look grainy, the beads are imitation pearls. If they look scaly, maze-like, they are real pearls. (Under 64-power magnification)

Flaw Test Examine the pearls for flaws. If they appear flawless and unnatural perfection, they might be imitation.

Temperature Test Take you pearl up and feel the temperature. You won’t feel any coolness when you touch them, and it tends to take them longer to warm up against your skin. Well, real pearls are cold to touch for the first couple of seconds before warming up against your skin.

Overtone Test Imitation is lack of overtone. Real pearls have various overtones.
