Gadgets are generally good for guys. New clothes too, since generally guys (like me as well) are lazy to buy their own stuff, wear things with holes in them, etc.

you could get him a towel, slippers, dvd, cd,wallet,socks,underpants,keyring,toenail clippers,tools, backscratcher/massager,something for his hobby/gardening,a good book,digital camera,mobile phone,garden gnome,alarm clock,watch,jacket,cap,pet,bible, bumperstickers,magazines,toiletries,reef trip,pack of cards,car seat covers,bbq,clothing,musical instrument but your neighbours may object to drumkit or bagpipes..
