peekenieze’s are pretty good dogs… they’re a little bigger on your scale there, but the smaller the dog, the more often it will need to be let out which isn’t good if you’re going to be gone most of the day…

I also suggest getting a dog who has already been house broken. they’re really hard to train if you’re going to be gone a lot.

Well, first of all…5 hours isn’t a horribly long time…so being crated for that length of time most dogs can live with that.

If you don’t want to exercise it much you probably want to stay away from the Westie…they need a good amount of activity. The smaller companion animals…the Peke, the Papillion, the Chi, Pom, and Cavalier can exercise in the house…tossing a ball down a hallway…

They ALL bark…it depends on the individual personality of the dog…no matter what breed it is. Go to this site and pay attention to what it says about each breeds “Watch Dog” ability…a high rating means they are reactive to outside noises…

good luck finding one in the shelter - you should give a shelter dog a chance!

Go for a Cockapoo! They are smallish, some grow big ,,, mine is all of 10 lbs.
