What is the maid of honnors role or job?

My best friend just declared that I will be her maid of honnor in her wedding in May of next year. I’m very excited, but what is the maid of honnors role or job? Am I supposed to save up money for a vacation or for a wedding gift?

hmm from what I know, the maid of honor’s job is to take care of the bridal shower. I was the maid of honor for a wedding. what I did was to take care of the invitations (design, production, distribution), witness the signing of the marriage certificate, assist the bride with her gown and stuff like that..
