What is my baby supposed to be doing?

I’m only 16 and I’m trying to figure out what my 4 month old daughter should be doing by now. I have read books and everything, but I still am not sure if she’s on track.

Answer #1

It sounds like she is doing all the right stuff. Pretty soon she will start to sit up by herself and clap her hands and by eight months might be able to move an object from one hand to the other. They all learn at different rates. Your doing good. Asking questions (anywhere, even on fun advice) about her development shows you want the best for her. Do you have any mother and baby groups near you? They were a bit scarey at first but even if you only make one good friend it will be worth it for all the advice swapping youl be doing.

Answer #3

asking questions about your childs health and development on fun advice is not a good idea. all of us you have children have followed differant pediatrians directions and standards. please talk to the childs doctor about your concerns.

Answer #4

I didn’t ask for someone to tell me what their child was doing at 4 months. I asked what is the normal thing for them to be doing at this age. My pediatrician just said that she should be doing what normal 4 month olds do, I just don’t know what they do.

Let’s see, from my experiences I remember teething, sitting up, trying to crawl, chewing on things, eating, pooping, puking (most notably on me), sleeping and crying. What exactly are you looking for your child to do? you’re “lucky” this is when they really start getting interesting.

Answer #6

Well, she is teething, she has a little tooth poking through. She is trying to sit up, she still needs help though. She scoots, trying to crawl. She doesn’t really like to eat, she’s too busy doing other things. She poops. She doesn’t really puke much, but she never has. She sleeps through the night, with 2 30 minutes naps throughout the day. She doesn’t cry, she yells.

I’m not really looking for her to do anything, I don’t really know what I’m looking for. She does most of the things you mentioned though, is that normal? And is that all?

Answer #7

Sounds pretty good to me. I really advocate breast feeding if possible because nature pretty much intended a baby to eat that. Most breastfed babies I have met (not many honestly) loved to eat, but that could be more because the breast fed babies eat more often (breast milk is more easily digested than formula so babies poo less, but eat a little more often) and they enjoy the bonding with mom.
