A more common word for ‘allusion’ is a ‘reference’ (to allude to = to refer to)

For example, if you say something like, ‘Ever since Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden, people have (…)’ that is a Biblical allusion, because you are referring to something in the Bible, even though you don’t quote it exactly.
