What- In a formal letter is it yours sincerely or yours faithfully?

Please help because this is really important for school work and if I don’t know I will probably get a detention with the teachers hell sent back :( x x

After the last line, skip two lines and conclude the letter with ‘Sincerely,’ ‘Thank you’ or ‘Best wishes,’ followed by a comma, then leave at least four blank lines for your signature, then type your name (or title) finally sign the letter in ink in the space created.

I think it’s yours faithfully if you know the person (like there a friend) and yours sincerely if it’s to someone you don’t really know
