What does it mean when someone says I paid my last respects? As to when somebody dies

Answer #1

when someone/something died + your saying your last words to them :’[

Answer #2

to pay your last respects for example at a eulogy (speach at a funeral) for example say a dear close friend has just passed away I would go up to address the congragation and say who I am if not many of them know me and my relationship to the deceased (im their best friend) and id say a few words telling the congragation how much my friend ment to me, tell them about a few of the things we did together maybe a funny story about something that happend to us.. or a story about how they helped me in my time of need then id say goodbye to my friend and say how much I will miss them and that I’ll think of them often.

this does not need to be done openly if you dont wish to speak in front of the grieving congragation you can go over to the coffin or grave and think about them and all the stuff you did together or what they ment to you then say your goodbyes privately

some people like to write a letter to the deceased and place it on/in the coffin for them to be burried or cremated with it.

its a way to show respect, reverence and remberence to the deceased

I hope that was useful

Answer #3

It’s when you say a last few words before they are buried or cremated etc. (It doesn’t have to be out loud).

It means someone has died. And you are taking part in a grieving process. Although usually as a friend
