What: Best anti-virus program for a windows XP desktop?

ok you have both AVG and Malwarebytes running?

thats not needed, your just using up computer resources for 2 programms doing exactly the same thing… the computer bloke you spoke to is wrong. malware is the name of all viruses, thats it and AVG is protecting you from them..

I’ve used AVG anti-virus + firewall (paid for version) for many many years and I cant remember 1 virus on my PC while using teh said software..

the ones you listed are fine (avg is the best free one), all you could use is a firewall. look at cnet.com under downloads. all software is test to be spyware free and is reviewed by the editors of cnet and the users of cnet. but im sure you know about cnet seeing as you have these other programs. its a trustworthy site, also has reviews of new pc, camras, cell phones, cars, etc. but if you want to know what is the best I go with norton (not free), never have had a problem with my computer other then the firewall needing to be told which programs it shouldnt block, but thats how it is with any firewall.

mcafee like norton is a resorce hog and far from teh best
