vocal cord problems

Im an active singer. And I have been since about 6 years ago. My one band plays heavier music so I have to sing “harshly” if you know what I mean. Not screaming though. Also almost every song is near the top of my vocal range. And I’ve been noticing that my voice doesnt last as long as it used to.

I used to sing screamo a little bit but I stopped cause it would make me throw up. My voice was perfectly fine after that though. But now I can barely make it through one song without my voice majorly decreasing in quality and range.

Example: My vocal range is a low Db to a high G. I can hit that high G the first time I try. The next time I try, I cant.

I researched a little bit and it sounds like I have calluses on my vocal cords.

Any opinions on this? Should I see my Doctor about this?

Thanks!

Agreed with the above. Take it easy. I’ve heard of techniques for harsh, growly and screamy singing that won’t screw you up so bad. I never made note of it, but I know some guy had classes or videos about it. Maybe you can find something on YouTube.

Aside from that, find a way to use your voice in a more natural way. Try to sound like yourself instead of trying to achieve a certain sound. You may end up with something more distinctive and much cooler than you realized you could do, not to mention easier.

You’re putting a big strain on your vocal cords singing especially ‘harshly’ - Celine Dion was told if she didn’t have 1 day of the week where she didn’t speak at all - she would lose her voice - you may need more than 1 day…see your Dr.
