VLC and movie download HELP!

I’ve downloaded VLC media player and the video clips that were already on my computer work and played, but when I downloaded Slumdog millionaire (a movie)an saved it as .avi an .mp4 it didnt work and wouldnt open in any other players, can anyone help me cause I really want to watch it on my computer so that I can burn it on to CD..

OK I’m not saying you should download movies.

But if .avi’s aren’t playing on VLC, you are missing codecs. Download something called “K-Lite Codec Pack” (get the complete version). Easy to find, and free. Then it will work.
