How to tell how valuable my gold ring is?

I’ve heard the number on the inside tells you how valuable it is but how do I determine how good the number is?

Answer #1

The number inside is the per-mille of gold in the alloy. So if it is 333 then that means 333 of 1000 parts are gold. Thus you have a ring that is 1/3 Gold and 2/3 other material.

Typical values are 333, 500 and 750 but others exist. Gold bars are usually 999.9.

Answer #2

Ah ok, the number is 375. Thank you! :)

Answer #3

Then weigh the thing with a fine scale, calculate 37,5% and look up the current gold price. That will give you its material value. Of course an artful ring or an antique might be more valuable than the mere material price. You will have to ask a jeweller for that. I don’t think anyone on here is an expert on valuable jewelry.
