If sandwich bread is square, then why is most luncheon meats round?

I think it has to do with picky kids…eg, kids like to remove the crust from bread (mine do sometimes) and then with round meat, you have have a similar shape.

But, cheese is always cut square…so, I think there may be a disconnect somewhere in the sandwich making world :)
