The film 'Walkabout'

Has anyone ever seen the film ‘Walkabout’ with Jenny Aguiter(sorry if I spelt her name wrong) Whats the bit where the australian boy is dancing with the white chalk like stuff all over his body about? No matter how many times I watch the film I never seem to get that bit. Also why does he kill himself after the dance?

The movie is supposed to give the viewer a feeling of isolation even though they are in this vast outback. Aborigines often paint themselves in the white paint its a cultural symbol, as for the boy killing himself, he more or less sacrificed himself, kind of hard to understand but the film maker wanted it to be that way.
