How do you become a teacher's assistant?

well it depends what grade it is. There are different requirements for each grade. Where i live you have to be certified in cpr and first aid. Also you need to have atleast a bachelors degree from college. Everyewhere is different so im supposing where you live doesnt need all that. I would suggest calling the school’s office and ask them where to go from there, they should be able to help.

I doubt you would go straight to a school and ask them… i may be wrong but i thought the usual route was- advert- reply to advert- interview???

As cupcake said they are different requirments depending on where you live but im sure a background and police check would be mandtory seen as though your working with children. Experince working with people/ children would be preffered i would have thought as well. In England you dont need a degree to become a teaching assistant.

I believe according to NCLB, paraprofessionals in title I schools need to have 60 college credits, or pass a test. If you qualify, then apply as with any other job.

thats right..60 college credits..but after i finish..how does it work..do u go to school for an interview or call them up for an appointment

I’m not sure how it works in your area, but here you can fill out an application on the school systems website. You will then be contacted by schools with openings, interviewed, have your background checked, fingerprinted, attend workshops, and what not.
