Who has any good suggestions, or knows of any good "How To's" on getting grease out of cloth towels?

Answer #1

First, just sprinkle a bit of baking soda or cornstarch over the grease that’s on the towel, and allow to sit for about 5 minutes to absorb the grease.

Then, brush the baking soda or cornstarch off the grease stains with an old toothbrush into the garbage.

Next, all you have to do is apply a pretreatment to the stain (dab the stain with a washcloth to work the pretreatment into the grease stain) and then wash it in the washing machine like normal.

Answer #3

pretreatments aren’t really environmentally friendly…I don’t worry about that, since if you designate a tea towel as your “grease” towel, who cares if it’s stained? Mine is ugly, but it’s clean and it works.

Answer #4

Does it matter if its a fresh stain or not?

Answer #6

The fresher the stain, the better it will come out. However, my mother used this method on a towel that had been stained but sat for about a week… and the stains mostly came out. If the towel is white, you could do this method plus bleach it.

Answer #7

Try 409, that gets any kind of grease out.

Answer #8

Try using dishwashing liquid, directly on the stain. I’ve used it on my clothes that get grease stains and it works great (only tried it on fresh stains…not sure if it will work on older, pre-washed stains). Good luck!
