What are tips for a new Student Council President?

Hello Everyone,

I am new here and I need some help. I was recently elected President of my school’s student council. My job is to run the meetings and stuff, but I have never done this sort of thing before. Could anyone out there with this sort of experience give me some advice on how to run these meetings without things getting out of hand, but while they still see me as a strong and kind leader?

Thanks, John

Alright, heres a few things to start off with.

  1. Make it a point to have everyone write down their contact details on a piece of paper before a meeting begins, have copies made and distribute them to all members. 2)Have the meetings in a closed room, preferrably around a round desk or anything with a big table.Make sure you sit at either the head of a table, or at the center so as to hear people speaking from both sides. 3)Do make it a point to fraternize with other members, perhaps have a team building night at a karaoke bar, or something else.Make sure you pass this on to the Events person, that way, if it blows, he/she takes the fall.

Hopes thats a start,

K
