Did any slaves fight in the American civil war?

if they did, what side were they on and did they volunteer, or were they forced into the war?

Yes some fought. They were on the side against slavery (north). And no they were not forced to.

Many did on both sides.

There were slaves that came with their owners and fought right along side them for the south as well.

They fought North (freed slaves) and the South (Owned slaves), in history a slave owner could send thier slave in their place which is what most Southers did that owned them; while the North said that a slave that serves in the army for atleast 4 years will be freed.
