Should I tell dad I'm depressed?

People make thoughtless comments all the time… depression is a weakness, depressed people are just whiny and need to snap out of it. It’s only because they dont understand it and it seems like it could never touch them. I agree with zorbot, talk to someone else about it and get some support. If the only way to talk to a therapist is to go through your dad, well then you’re going to have to tell him. I honestly think once it actually comes home, he’s going to look at it differently… But you know your dad best. Maybe talk to your mum first. Or someone who can help you talk to him. Getting help is important though. Why live with something that has a treatment.

You should go tell someone who won’t judge you first. I wouldn’t tell your Dad just yet. Not until you’ve talked about it with someone like a friend, counselor, therapist or psychologist. If your Dad has prejudiced against people with depressions, I don’t think he’ll be very receptive to your needs right now. And what you need is someone to help you out of your depression, not put you down for it. Get advice and help before confronting your father about it.
