Why is my scalp itchy, flaky, and red?

I’ve been having problems with my scalp for about… almost 5 months now Around my hairline a little past that now my scalp is itchy flaky & red it seems like the more I scratch (I always use a comb) the darker it gets where I scratch at first I thought it was just simple dandruff because I’ve had dandruff problems before in the past I kept using my dandruff shampoo (selsun blue moisturizing mediated its green that’s always worked for me) & I’m like “Hmmm? doesn’t seem to be getting any better maybe I should find a new dandruff shampoo” I went to go pick up a stronger one its Neutrogena for dandruff & scalp build up with silic acid (sp?) The bottle is almost gone now & that didn’t help either

so I’ve been goggling to see what other people have done I’ve changed my shampoos & conditioners that didn’t help I’ve even used homemade remedies like vinegar water, green tea & a few others that didn’t help

I recently came across Scalp psoriasis, Psoriasis & Seborrheic dermatitis I’ve been looking at pictures & reading about the symptoms It looks about the same as what’s going on with my scalp but I’m not sure I’ve also noticed a few months ago that I had this weird dry patch on my elbow It looked like a patch of skin on my elbow had been grated & dried it was really rough & hurt I tried putting oils on it, exfoliating it, & nothing seemed to help I just noticed recently that it’s calmed down & smaller I’m not sure what helped with that I’m not sure if the two are linked or not

Sorry this question is so long but I don’t want to leave out any info I really need help! I don’t know what to do or what it could be…. Thanks!

Hi there, it sounds like you could have a slight scalp infection there, dermatitis, or scalp psoriasis. You should go to a doctor or a trichologist to get it sorted out because without proper care, it could spread and you could loose your hair permanently. You will most likely get a cream to put on it and some kind of oral medication. You’ll have to switch your shampoo/conditioner, most of the time, ‘dandruff fighting’ shampoos actually cause dandruff by drying out the skin. To get rid of dandruff you should alternatively use a mint based natural shampoo. Do you have sensitive skin elsewhere on your body?

Answer #2

Yea my scalp & body entire body is sensitive I don’t put on perfume, fragrance lotions or anything like that because of how sensitive it is but I’ve never had problems with dry skin on my body just on my scalp & this is the first time on my elbow

Oh & I have a naturally oily scalp, face etc.

Hmm yep I think you should see a doctor. Don’t be scared, it could be as simple as switching your shampoo, or just a course of medicine. But scalp conditions should always be treated before they get any worse because it could lead to hair loss.

there is a comprehensive guide for healing the scalp. It walks dry scalp sufferers through all aspects of the condition, including diet, traditional shampoos, proven herbal ingredients, and more. The best part of the guide, though, is that it gives you permanent results. Unlike commonly available anti-dandruff solutions that sometimes actually aggravate this condition, it shows us how to attack the root causes of skin problems, end the inflammation cycle, and have a healthy scalp and beautiful, shiny hair. for more information about their home remedies, Check it out your self at —> http://www.nomoredryscalp.com.
