Is it possible to remove the music from a song, and only keeping the vocals?

As I’m doing a Music GCSE, and playing guitar to a song, I want it just to be the vocals and my guitar. Is there any free software I could use to do this? Thanks!

yes

You can only do it if you have access to the original multi-track recording. You could not use software to get a satisfactory vocal extraction from an mp3 file (or similar digital encoding), or from a typical CD or a recording that you have made from the radio or television.

I would suggest you get the score and lyrics for the song you want to use and get some of your friends to sing the vocals.

Alternatively, you could all listen to the track you like through headphones while you record them singing along to the track that only they can hear through the headphones.
