Does anyone remember this show and what is was called?

It was on either fox or nbc(I think) awhile back there was this show that dealt with these monsters i guess. Anyway it basically told you the story through two perspectives. there was a kid who finds a baby monster and keeps it with him and tries to raise it as his pet. then there is this guy who’s brother was killed by one and he often has flashbacks/nightmares of his brother in the ocean and then a giant silouette of a monster coming from behind his brother. Then in the final episode the monster get into the city when it gets flooded. I know its not the best description but I only caught some episodes and it was awhile ago. Oh if it helps there is an episode where the guy is in like a science lab…I dont really remember why he was there but he was trying to escape for most of the episode.
