How do I prevent getting massive, fist-sized knots in my hair?

When I had long hair, no matter how much I would brush it, by the end of the day I would have lots of knots. My hair is shorter now, up to my shoulders, but I still get knots, how do I prevent getting knots?

Answer #1

Really, the only way is to brush it often, or wear it up in a style that prevents it from moving too much

Answer #2

Yea… A braid works best.

Answer #3

You can try leave in conditioners. My cousin has a terrible knotting problem because her hair is super thick, and the conditioner works wonders!! hope it works out for you :D

Answer #4

Have you tried using a spray in detangler?

Answer #5

I used to have that too. I had long hair and it was splitting at the ends. It always looked like a swarm of baya birds had build their nests in it. :-(

I So I used all sorts of repair shampoos, conditioners and everything. And then I always wore it plaited. But it still looked tousled.

So I decided to cut it shoulder length. Now it’s not looking like bird nests anymore. But it’s not the same thing either. :-/

Answer #6

I used to get massive knots in my hair all the time, but I control this by combing through my hair every morning and night. Also, when you wash your hair use a shampoo as normal but then apply a leave-in conditioner all over your hair, more focused on the ends. Leave it in for around 30 mins and comb in through your hair so it really nourishes your locks, then thoughrouly rinse it out. Do it about 2 times a week. Just to clarify, do you tie your hair up a lot? Because if you do, try giving your hair a break-putting it up a lot can damaged and split the ends. Good Luck, tell me how it goes?

Answer #7

Brush it really well, and braid it when u go 2 bed

Answer #8

this is what i do: while your in the shower get a comb. and after you wash and condition your hair comb your hair and, dont do anything after brushing it. when you get out of the shower you can put all of your products in your hair or whatever you do. but yea thats what i do. hope it kind of helped :)

Answer #9

Always start at the ends of your hair and work your way up. This will decrease breaking your hair and creating split ends. Those cause hair to feel rough and make it more likely to tangle.

Answer #10

condition it everyother day after shampooing, dont sleep on wet hair, towel dry a little and brush out all the tangles, then blow dry. if you dont like blow drying, towel dry it till its dampish, and then brush out the tangles, leave your hair to dry naturally and brush it every few minutes till its dry. but deffinitely dont sleep on wet or damp hair. i used to do this when i was younger and had hair down to the bum, waking up with huge knotted birds nests on the back of my head. Badtimes… hope this helped :)
