Boy problem please help!

So I was friends with this guy for 5 years before we started dating. We were dating for almost a month when I was forced to go see my dad whom lives in another state. Before I left he told me he loved me and I said “ok”. I was supossed to leave my dads after 2 weeks but my dad wouldnt let me leave. 1 month after that I talked to 1 of my friends and found out that the guy I was with asked her out. Then I talked to 1 of my step-sisters and was told she saw him with another girl, so I broke up with him. Now that I’ve been back home me and him talk and volunteer with eachother all the time. He tells me that what they said wasnt true that they just dont like him (wich they dont) and that he still loves me. Now I cant stop thinking about him and I want to be with him, but I dont want to be with him if I dont love him. And I dont know if what im feeling is love or not. How can I tell if I love him?

You can tell if you love him if you really care about him..and if you think he’s not telling you the truth then you might be wrong. If he says he really loves you then that should be possible that he does.
