Off to the Planned Parenthood in a while. Got a few questions!

Vivi, Most of these answers depend on the state laws where you live, and what you decide to do. For instance in PA (IF one decides on ab0rtion) there have to be 2 visits 24-hrs (or more) apart. The 1st visit has a film, and the 2nd visit has the procedure. And the patient gets a normal ultrasound at one of the visits - NOT the invasive ultrasound that some Republican legislatures are trying to push. Also in PA doctors are not REQUIRED BY STATE LAW to lie to their patients. (Don’t get me started about anti-choice tactics.) If you are at or over the age of consent (16 – 18 depending on the state), you can insist on privacy and that all medical advice and conditions be kept between you and the doctor - but since your Mom already knows, you might want her for support. If a surgical procedure is done, as in any surgical procedures, only medical personnel will be there. If it is just talk or pill dispensing your Mom might be with you (see start of paragraph). As for the length of the appointment … ??? … depends, but probably longer than you expect since PP are busy. A lot goes on there - procedures, prescriptions, emergency c0ntra ceptives, family planning, preg. tests, STD tests, cancer tests, prenatal exams, ob/gyn exams, basic se x education, LBGT support groups, and much more.
