Pc to Mobile phone connection

I have a Dell Vistro laptop and would like to hook up a cell phone for an internet connection for web browsing I have Metro PCS phone service what kind of phone would do this with a data cable link and software???

It should work with any newer phone, just plug one end of the data cable to the phone and another to a USB port. Programs such as BitPim are free software that can help make the transfers easier.
