Parakeet Breeding Problems

Hey Im having a little bit of a problem with Raja(hen), and Abu(male). I’ve had raja for about five years and thought it was a bit overdue that I had actually gotton her a companion, so I did. Now I had gotton another male for her and they seemed to be quite fond of each other but because saw it didnt look too healthy I returned him and got Abu. The only problem is that Raja doesnt seem to want to mate with this male. Everytime Abu tries to feed her she fights it or pecks him. Is there anything that I can do?

Give them more room… a bigger cage…so he can get away from her…and give them time. She might still be sad about losing her other mate… and may not ever want a new husband…Or she might , in time, learn to love the new guy. Just make sure they aren’t crowded so she doesn’t do him harm,..while she’s in a bad mood.

I had the same problem. Typically older female birds can be picky and fickle about mates., even to the point of abusing the male bird, by pecking. Older birds like people get set in their ways and mating may be difficult. She may not feel the need to mate and choose to be alone. Your best bet is to get a younger female bird.
