I recommend telling them the benefits of this website. There are many things you can do in this website while maintaining a normal connection with friends. In my opinion, I think there is a problem when you try to get your friends to be adjusted. They might not want to because they are more used to a immensely popular site (ex. Facebook). Many people ,like me, have trust issues and cannot rely on a true friendship from a stranger on the web. Some people do not mind and actually do like make real good friends online without knowing much about them.
There are two reasons accounts “go dark” on our site.
The first of course, is that they ask for it, which really sucks. In that case, well, if you can, there’s always email & IM to ask them to re-join (which we do allow).
The second reason is that they didn’t take the two minutes to read the rules and instead of doing one small thing, they did a dozen, or more.
In those cases, we can’t afford any leniency. Some people just can’t figure out that behavior you wouldn’t do in real life, is also behavior you shouldn’t engage in online. Once more people understand that, I believe that everybody will be far better off (and we’ll have to remove less accounts).
